  1. Connect the ground. Join the dimmer’s green lead to the bare copper or green house ground, and to the box’s ground screw if the box is metal.
  2. Connect the two black leads to the two circuit wires that were on the brass terminals. On a single-pole dimmer these are interchangeable, so orientation does not matter.
  3. Connect the neutral if the dimmer has a white lead — join it to the white neutral bundle in the box.
  4. For a three-way dimmer, connect the lead marked common or COM to the wire you taped, and the two remaining leads to the traveller wires in either order.
